ASI Token Merger Pushed Back to July, But Superintelligence Still on the Horizon

The merger of tokens planned by the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (ASI), which combines SingularityNET, Fetch.ai, and Ocean Protocol, has been rescheduled for July 15th. Despite the delay, ASI leaders remain optimistic about the future of superintelligence.
While the merger faces a short postponement, SingularityNET and ASI founder Ben Goertzel told Cointelegraph that “superhuman superintelligence” could be just a few years away. The delay is due to additional technical and logistical hurdles that need to be cleared.
“This temporary setback doesn’t affect our progress towards a decentralized superintelligence network,” said Fetch.ai CEO Humayun Sheikh. “Our teams are working closely with exchanges to finalize everything.”
Long-Term Goals: A Decentralized Path to Superintelligence
Goertzel discussed the long-term vision with Cointelegraph: “Our ultimate goal is to create superintelligence on a decentralized platform. This is a medium-term goal, not something happening right now. We’re aiming for progressively smarter AI systems on a decentralized network, eventually leading to general intelligence.”
Joining Forces for Success
Goertzel emphasized that the collaboration aims to combine the strengths of the three AI and blockchain projects to develop a decentralized artificial general intelligence (AGI). “Once we achieve human-level AGI, this system can further enhance its own intelligence, paving the way for superintelligence,” he explained. “Our competitors are major tech companies with massive resources. Joining forces increases our chances of success.”
The Road to Singularity and Beyond
When asked about the timeline for AGI implementation, Goertzel offered a range: “It could be three to eight years. Not this year, but also not centuries away. We’re getting closer, and I believe we might see extremely powerful superintelligence within a few years.”
Goertzel acknowledged past predictions, including those by Ray Kurzweil, who envisioned human-level AGI by 2029 and a technological singularity by 2045. “Kurzweil might have underestimated how quickly AGI can improve its own intelligence,” Goertzel suggested.
